About the role
We are looking for a Social Media Manager for a short-term contract supporting social media planning, content creation and account management. You will help turn business goals into a content plan that is realistic to produce and useful to the people it is intended to reach.
The work calls for an understanding of the business behind each account. Before proposing posts, you should be comfortable learning what a business offers, who its customers are and what makes a customer choose it. The aim is clear communication and relevant enquiries, rather than posting simply to fill a calendar.
What you will work on
- Review existing social accounts, audience information, brand materials and business priorities before recommending a content direction.
- Plan content calendars with clear topics, formats, publishing dates and the approvals needed to keep production moving.
- Write captions and coordinate images, carousels and short videos that suit the channel and the business's voice.
- Schedule approved content and manage community responses within the agreed scope, escalating questions that need the business owner's input.
- Track useful measures such as engagement, website visits and relevant enquiries, and explain what the results suggest changing.
- Keep content files, account access and handover notes organised so the business can continue using the work after the contract.
What you will bring
- Practical experience managing social media for businesses or brands, with examples that show your own contribution.
- Clear written communication and the ability to adapt tone without relying on generic captions or unsupported claims.
- An eye for layout, image selection and short-form video, with confidence using content creation and scheduling tools.
- An understanding of how different social platforms affect formats, audience expectations and reporting.
- A reliable approach to feedback, approvals, account permissions and deadlines when working remotely.
A focused first project
An initial project could involve reviewing an account, preparing a focused content calendar, producing approved posts and reporting on what we learn. The channels, publishing volume, community management and reporting schedule will be agreed as part of the contract scope.
Short-term contract and remote working
This is a short-term, project-based contract. We will agree the scope, deliverables, expected hours, start date, duration and rate before work begins. It is not a permanent position, and further work is a separate discussion.
The role is fully remote for applicants based in Australia. Our business is based in Melbourne. We will agree how we communicate, share progress and review work so you can plan around the project commitments.
